My wife and I used it and had fantastic results. I bought this for a friend who was having trouble losing weight on other diets, and it worked for her, too. The basis of the diet is doing a 2-week no-carb diet that forces your body into ketosis - it has to burn body fat to compensate for the lack of carbs. It's essentially Atkins, and you get a list of permissible foods for the two weeks. After that, now that your metabolism is burning fat, you expand to a second list of permissible foods, which includes "good" carbs like fruits, and you stay in "Phase 2" until you reach your weight loss goal.
After that, the third list tells you what to eat that will help you maintain your new healthy weight. Lots of recipes included. Easy to follow, and it works! The book gives great science behind the diet and the interaction of certain foods with the body.
I knew that I had become insulin resistant and had tried many diets that worked in the past but hadn't worked recently. I lost 15lbs in the first two and a half weeks; with 20 to go, but I'm not discouraged, this diet allows you to eat without counting calories or ounces. I have been on the SBD since January lost 15 pounds in 4 months. I will never go back to eating the way I used to. The meal are very tasty and easy to make.
Making these meal have gotten me to like cooking again. Only down side is that I have 4 kids and I almost always have to make them something different.
I guess that is my fault as I allow for that. I could get 2 to eat the meal but the other 2 are so darn picky that it's just not worth the argument at dinner time.
Again it's my fault for allowing the argument, so I don't blame the SBD cookbook. Others have complained that this book doesn't break down the recipes into the different phases. It actually does in the back of the book you will find the different phases with a list of food that are broken down into categories. The only thing I think SB should have done different is to have pictures of each recipe.

South Beach Diet Phase. There are basically three phases in South Beach Diet. You eat normal portion sizes In Phase 1, but all carbohydrate are restricted. This is the strictest phase in the diet and will last for two weeks.

Phase 1 of the diet also allows a daily choice of four Brazil nuts, eight Macadamia nuts, 20 small peanuts or 30 dry roasted pistachios.
